WHAT IS HIDRADENITIS SUPPURATIVA?
This is the name of the chronic skin condition that started off my interest in Natural Healing and that I had suffered with for seven years.
The term Hidradenitis comes from "Hidros" meaning sweat "adeno" meaning gland. The ending "itis" indicates an "inflammation" of. The word suppurativa or suppurative defines the formation of pus within tissues or organs and the result is an abscess.
Hidradenitis Suppurativa as described in medical terms is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects inverse areas of the body, armpits, inner thighs, buttocks, groin of male and females, breasts in women, hairline, nape of neck, stomach, behind the ears and is characterized by swollen, painful, pus filled lesions that at times can grow the size of a golf ball. Foul smelling drainage is often reported and raised lesions are often described as brown, red, or purple in color. Hidradenitis Suppurativa has been grouped into three clinical stages:
Stage 1: Single or multiple lesion formation without sinus tracking and scar formation.
Stage 2: Recurrent lesions with track and scar formation with single and multiple widely spread lesions
Stage 3: Scattered or broad involvement of multiple interconnected tracts and lesions across the entire area.
HS is very painful and those who suffer with it often become disabled. There is no known Medical Cure and very little research has been done and HS has been described as an "orphan" disease although some physicians report HS as very common with no precise cause or known cure.
HS is often miss-diagnosed because of its similarity to boils and carbuncles, at least to the eye.
If you or anyone in your family suffer from recurrent "boils" or "abscesses", it is possible that you or they have Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
The program of treatment used by the author of the books, Barbara Collins, has been developed over many years and has brought relief to many Hidradenitis Suppurativa sufferers. The benefits of the program are often dramatic and complete after many attempts with medical medicines have failed.
This program of natural treatment would be termed unproven and based on stories to most medical doctors however this regimen of natural treatment has been found to work in natural practice. It is safe and inexpensive, compared to the cost of many unsuccessful medical treatments that HS patients have already tried and that have failed. It is common in the history of medicine that acceptance of natural therapy, such as the therapy used by us for healing HS, is not recognized and used and thus highly effective natural treatments are rejected sometimes for decades, merely because they were not explained scientifically and do not fit in with currently accepted theories.
The natural program used has never been “disproved” and Hidradenitis Suppurativa sufferers should not be deprived of a safe, natural and effective treatment only because the scientific basis has not been fully researched. If thorough medical evaluation shows no other plausible cause or known cure for HS symptoms, then therapy with dietary and environmental avoidance of offending substances can cause no harm.
Hidradenitis Suppurativa sufferers who have been sick for a long time and who have failed to find benefit through medical therapy are the ones whom will be motivated to follow this program for the months required to achieve lasting healing. The most common pitfall seen by natural healers using and teaching this natural therapy is the loss of patience, lack of persistence, lack of understanding, and the HS sufferer stopping therapy before full improvement is achieved.
